Sting making his debut - Survivor Series 2014 |
Before Survivor Series 2014, Sting was THE biggest star to have never worked for the WWE. Now I classify myself as a professional wrestling fan. Although the grand majority of my time watching wrestling is watching the WWE (or WWF). So I'm not too familiar with Sting since he stayed with WCW until they went out of business. However I did know who Sting was and what he looked like. Also I can recognize his
Theme Song if I heard it. It was a shame that he didn't sign with the WWE after WCW. Since he didn't go with WWE, he signed with TNA for a number of years.
Eventually though, he did leave TNA and signed a deal with WWE. He was used as pre-order DLC for WWE 2K15 and had a DVD/Blu-Ray made about him. The only thing is that he never showed up on WWE programming. Until Survivor Series that is.
During the main event of Survivor Series featuring a Classic 5-On-5 Survivor Series Elimination Match between Team Cena (John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Erik Rowan, Big Show, and Ryback) and Team Authority (Seth Rollins, Rusev, Mark Henry, Luke Harper, and Kane). If Team Authority lost, then Triple H and Stephanie McMahon would no longer be in charge. If Team Cena lost, then everyone on the team except for Cena himself, would be fired.

Sting interrupting the main event - Survivor Series 2014 |
I'm not going to go into too much detail about the match as that is not what this post is about. At the end of the match, it was down to Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins. Dolph was the sole survivor for his team after The Big Show turned his back on his team and punched John Cena, leaving Dolph to fend for himself. It was a 3-On-1 with Seth, Luke Harper, and Kane left on Team Authority. Through a miraculous feat, Ziggler eliminated both Kane and Harper basically barely living.
Ziggler hit Rollins with the Zig Zag and was looking to finally win the match. Then Triple H had to stick his big fat nose into the match and pulled the referee out of the ring to stop the count. The Authority attacked Ziggler but Ziggler was able to fend them off and hit Seth with a second Zig Zag. Triple H attacked the ref once again stopping the count. Triple H hit the pedigree on Ziggler and called for his own ref to come out and count the pin. The same ref that screwed Daniel Bryan at Night of Champions 2013. Then, it happened, Sting debuted.
Sting came down, knocked out the crooked ref, and hit the Scorpion Death Drop on Triple H. He then pulled Ziggler over onto Seth and the ref came in and counter the pinfall. The Cena won the match, and it was all because of Sting.
Now here is the whole point of this post. I couldn't help but have the feeling of "meh" about Sting showing up. Don't get me wrong, Sting being in the WWE is indeed huge. But it would have been hudger 10 years ago. It is 2014, 13 years have passed since WCW closed down. Sting hasn't been important in the grand scheme of thing since WCW. He was down in TNA for quite a few years but is TNA really that popular compared to WWE or even WCW. 2003-2004 would have been the ideal time for Sting to be an awe inducing moment showing up in the WWE.
The way many people reacted to Sting showing up is completely puzzling to me. I feel with the amount of time that passed, it should have been "Oh cool, Sting finally went to the WWE. Can't wait for the match he does". Everyone else reacted like "HOLY TITTY FUCKS! STING! STING! STING IS THE WWE! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!!! *Boom*"
I know that Sting was someone people absolutely enjoyed during the WCW days and can't even fathom a WCW only guy would be on WWE TV. It would be like The Undertaker showing up on WCW, the same effect. While is cool to see Sting finally in the WWE, I just don't think it's amazing like people are making it out to be in 2014. This is just the viewpoint of someone who really only watches the WWE and never watched WCW when it was still in business. So yes, this is a biased opinion, and sometimes it's okay to have those. Thank you for reading and I would love to hear the opinion of someone who watched WCW when they were going to war with the WWF during the Monday Night Wars. Talk to you all later!
