Video Game Additions for December 2014 (Special Christmas Edition)
Happy belated holiday's everyone! It's been a while since I posted anything on Youtube and this blog. Don't worry, I'll address this in a future post soon. Since I haven't posted what I got in December, I think this is a good of time as any. During the whole month of December, I haven't bought anything so this has only stuff I got for Christmas. That's why this is a
Special Christmas Edition. So without a further ado!
WWE 2K15 (Xbox 360)
This year, the yearly WWE game was extremely lackluster. 2K15 was two different games on both the 7th and 8th Gen consoles. Since I don't own a Xbox One or PS4, and because I own every WWE game on the 360, I got WWE 2K15 for the Xbox 360. On the last gen consoles (Xbox 360/PS3) they got rid of some game modes (mainly the storyline creator, create a finisher, and custom entrance music) and have a severely limited roster compared to older WWE games. There are no new gameplay additions, it's basically just a reskinned 2K14. So it's kinda a let down. You know you messed up 2K when I don't even felt the need to own the game on day 1. Also the Xbox One/PS4 version of the game has even MORE removed game modes and match types. I just hope 2K doesn't release any more WWE games on last gen, I don't want to keep buying shitty wrestling games yearly.
LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS3)
LittleBigPlanet is the Mario platformer for Sony. A big selling point for the games is it's level creator. With enough time and patience, you can make so really amazing things.
Like remake Final Fantasy VII in LittleBigPlanet 2. In the month of December, I went through and beat the single player campaigns of LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2. This is so I have caught up with the main series before the newest one came out. There's no overarching story though, it's just for the sense of completing the previous ones. LittleBigPlanet 3 is interesting as it's the first main series game not made by Media Molecule, instead made by Sumo Digital. They mostly make racing games and licensed titles. Hopefully LittleBigPlanet 3 is fun and worthy of being called the third game in the series.
Wii U
Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, the newest member of my video game family, The Nintendo Wii U! The Wii U has been a controversial system among many gamers. The biggest criticism to it is it's name, it's less powerful than the Xbox One/PS4, many third parties are not supporting the system, and there is a big ass screen on the controller. Many of those points are valid, but as for playing games and nothing else pretty much, the Wii U excels at that. While it's not THE system to own to keep up with all of your friends, it complements the other systems and PC gaming amazily. It's a side system, somthing to own to play the amazing exclusives (Mostly made by Nintendo).
At first, I was skeptical of the Wii U Gamepad. It just looks like a giant brick with a screen on it. Surprisingly, the controller is really comfortable. I'm indifferent on the screen while playing games. Out of the 4 games I got with the Wii U, only one truly uses the touchscreen outside of menus. I don't realize the genius of the screen until I was downloading something on the PS3 and I played some Mario Kart on the Gamepad. Then it hit me, I don't need a TV to play most Wii U games. Then the final test, does it work in the bathroom? Yes, yes it does, and it's glorious!
Nintendoland (Wii U)
Just like Wii Sports before it, Nintendoland is the pack-in game for the Wii U. It's a glorified tech demo for the gamepad like Wii Sports was for the Wiimote. There are a total of 12 minigames to play, most can be played in single player. Only three games have to be played by at least 2 people. Nintendoland surely is more spectacular looking than Wii Sports. Fun to play with other people.
Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
The Wii U bundle I got was the Mario Kart 8 Bundle so of course it comes with Mario Kart 8. One thing that I noticed in the bundle is that Nintendoland was not sealed in any plastic but Mario Kart 8 was. There's not much to say, it's Mario Kart! It's one of the best games on the system.
The LEGO Movie Video Game (Wii U)
The LEGO games made by Traveller's Tales since LEGO Star Wars are very good and fun games. A lot of LEGO games before it were between good and bad. However it seems like TT is really releasing a whole bunch of these games in recent times. 3 total LEGO Star Wars games (4 if you count the complete trilogy game was another), 2 Indiana Jones games, 3 Batman games, 2 Lord of the Rings games, and now The LEGO Movie. I only played a extreme small bit of the game but it really seems like a cash in on the movie. The quality is not up to standard to some of the previous games.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Wii U)
And the final game I got for Christmas was LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Unlike The LEGO Movie game, this one is a good game. I can't wait to play this one. It's also interesting that there is now both Marvel and DC Comics LEGO games. Hopefully there will be a crossover game between the two companies in LEGO form. But of course that most likely won't happen soon.
And there you have it, this is everything I acquired for December 2014. As you probably could tell, I'm excited to finally own a Wii U. Now I can't wait to get some of the Wii U exclusives that I wanted to play. 2014 was trying to build my PS3 collection, now 2015 will be for building my Wii U collection. Thank you for reading and as a bonus, here is a picture of me getting my Wii U.
