For September 2014
September has been a month of trying to fix up some of the lesser quality parts of my collection. Like if a game's case is broken, or some games are missing cases, or perhaps I have the guide to a game that I don't own. So without further ado, here is what I bought.
Addition #1 - M & J Video Games & Collectibles
|
Monsters, Inc.: Scream Team for PS1 and WWF Super Wrestlemania for SEGA Genesis |
I wrote about this store in the last Video Game Additions post. If you want to hear my thoughts on the store, you can read them
HERE. Since it was the grand opening when I went, I figured to give them a try again. My thoughts on the store last time still hold true this time. I see they have new cases now, so that should give them more shelf space for games. Besides that, everything is still the same.
I wanted to kill time so I spent close to a half an hour just looking through their games. The workers kept asking me if I need help finding something. I guess I did look suspicious as I was the only person in the whole store. The whole time I was there, only one other person came into the store. It was also in the middle of the week and after 5 p.m. I bet they get more business on the weekends.
Since I spent so much time in the store, I felt obligated to buy at least something. So I figured I might as well get another WWE/WWF game. So I bought WWF Super Wrestlemania for the SEGA Genesis. Now I only need WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game and WWF RAW and I have all the WWF games for the SEGA Genesis. Kinda ironic I bought this game as my next "The Collection" video will be about it's sequel, WWF Royal Rumble. Expect that video out soon. What I didn't like is that the person ringing me out didn't even ask if I wanted a bag. I believe that person was the owner too. Hope this place gets better as it's the closest one to me.
Monsters, Inc.: Scream Team for Playstation 1 - Cost $6 - Worth $5 - Difference -$1
WWF Super Wrestlemania for SEGA Genesis - Cost $5 - Worth $4 - Difference -$1
Addition #2 - Retro Games Plus
|
Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox, Scribblenauts for DS, WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role,
and WCW Mayhem for PS1 |
The next place I went to was Retro Games Plus. This trip was to pick up things I was missing.
|
Four Game Gear Game Cases (Games not Included) |
Halo: Combat Evolved is the game I only owned as a digital download on my Xbox 360. I wanted to get the physical disc of it. I had the choice between the regular edition of the game and the "Game of the Year" edition. I got the GotY edition just because of it's shiny cover. As far as I can tell, besides the covers, the regular and GotY editions are exactly the same.
Scribblenauts is a game where you have to solve puzzles by spawning a certain item or thing. It's a cool concept for sure and I just never got around to buy the game. I went through a phase of just buying anything that was video game related at thrift stores. I actually bought the guide book for Scribblenauts, even though I didn't own the game. Now I finally own the game so it's not odd to own the guide anymore.
|
Game Guides for Spider-Man 3 and
LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game |
On my quest to get every WWF/WWE game for major systems, I found another WCW game. WCW Mayhem. I don't really have anything to say other than I have it. :P Oh yeah, I did get it for free because of Retro Games Plus's Buy 3, Get 1 Free deal.
Now I already owned WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role from my childhood. So why did I buy another copy? Well my original copy's case was broken a long time ago. So I had the write the name of the game on the side of it's replacement case. I didn't keep the back insert. So I bought this just to have the case on my shelf, so I can easily read the name of the game. Also this copy has less scratches on the disc than my copy.
Some of my game guides I had over the years got damaged from use. So I saw two game guides that I have at home that needed to be replaced. They were only $1 each, so why not. The Game Gear Carry Case I own can only hold games if they have cases on them. I have only one case so I needed more. I bought 4 cases that are worth $0.25 each. I stupidly forgot how many Game Gear games I had total. I thought 4 would be a good number to get. I needed to get 5. So now I have only one game missing a case. Oh well, maybe next time.
Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox - Cost $8 - Worth $6 - Difference -$2
Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS - Cost $10 - Worth $5 - Difference -$5
WCW Mayhem for Playstation 1 - Cost $0 - Worth $5 - Difference +$5
WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role - Cost $5 - Worth $10 - Difference +$5
Spider-Man 3 Game Guide - Cost $1
LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game Game Guide - Cost $1
4 Game Gear Game Cases - Cost $1
Addition #3 - Game X Change
|
Power Rangers Zeo: Full Tilt Battle Pinball for PS1, Pokemon Trading Card Game for GBC, and Technic Beat for PS2 |
Game X Change is the Gamestop of the Retro Video Gaming world. It's a chain store, but the feeling of the store has more soul than Gamestop. My friend wanted to go here more than I did, glad I did go though.
Whenever I think of Power Rangers games on the PS1, I always think of the Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force games. I forget about the Power Rangers Zeo game. It's not a game like the other two, but rather a pinball game. Nothing really special besides having Power Rangers Zeo themed pinball tables.
My friend was looking for one more game, so I was helping him. Not really helping though because I was showing him just some random games I found on the selves, not serious recommendations. Then I stumbled upon Technic Beat. It was only $0.95. I had to get it because that's an insane price! Looking up on the game after buying it, it's a music rhythm game featuring music from Namco games. Despite not being made or published by Namco. It was developed by Arika, who makes a bunch of random games. Tetris games, Street Fighter EX games, Dr.Mario games, Endless Ocean games, a Mega Man Network game, a Dragonball Z game, Tekken 3D: Prime Edition, and all 6 of the Nintendo 3D Classics games on the 3DS eShop. Just what a random assortment of games and franchises.
Then I found a game in their basket of Game Boy games that I wouldn't think would be so cheap. I found Pokemon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy Color for only $4. Whenever I see this game at a retro video game store, it's at least $15. I was wondering if it was a bootleg, but no, it's real. Turns out, the game loose is worth $7. So every time I saw it in a game store, they were over pricing it just because it said Pokemon in the title. What a good price I found it for.
Power Rangers Zeo: Full Tilt Battle Pinball for Playstation 1 - Cost $10 - Worth $7 - Difference -$3
Technic Beat for Playstation 2 - Cost $1 - Worth $5 - Difference +$4
Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy Color - Cost $4 - Worth $7 - Difference +$3
I'm glad I got some things replaced or missing from my collection. I didn't really save money this time, just about $4 off of how much it's actually worth. I didn't add the Game Gear Cases and Game Guide because they are not on VG Price Charting so their prices can fluctuate. Hopefully next month will be better with saving money. Thank you for reading, and have a great day!
Grand Total: Cost $52 - Worth $56 - Difference +$4
