The Collection: Rayman Origins
This article is about a Youtube video that I made about the video game, Rayman Origins. You can watch that video right
HERE.
Before I start, I feel the need to explain a bit what I'm talking about. Postmortem is a word that is defined as, "an examination of a dead body to determine the cause of death". Now I'm not examining any kind of body, I use that word for a different meaning. When you have a postmortem for a creative project, that means you reflect on that project and see what you can improve for future projects. So don't worry, I'm not looking at anyone's dead body. "The Collection" is a series of videos on my Youtube channel that talks about things in my video game collection. As of now I only made 3 of these videos, but I plan on expanding what I cover in them in the future. Such as video game consoles, video game magazines, or anything else I have that's video game related. The video on Rayman Origins was definitely a learning experience on video making. Here is a list of things that I learned during the making of that video.
#1 - Get things done quicker!
The video I made before this one was released on June 28, 2014. That's damn near 3 months between releases! I had the footage recorded on July 25, 2014 and I just got around to completing the video. It's not like that editing to this video is complex or anything. It was just out of pure and utter laziness. While the video is not completely simple, it shouldn't take 3 months to put it out. Between, recording, writing a script, recording the voice over, and editing it all together, it should have only taken two weeks on and off. I need to work on this majorly.
#2 - Find a new video editor!
For all of my videos I use Camtasia Studio 8 to edit them in. What I like about it is the simple interface it has while still having it not look bush league like Windows Movie Maker. However there is one extreme downfall that I can not live with, the performance sucks! It's practically unusable with editing a 8 minute video. It would lag so much that editing would become a hassle. Also it crashed a few times on me. It's not like I have horrible specs, Intel i7 2nd Gen Processor, with 8GB RAM and 1GB Dedicated VRAM. It's most currently not top of the line, but not crappy either. I need a better video editor pronto.
#3 - Change the format of "The Collection"!
This is something I noticed while putting the finishing touches on the video. I need to condense the entire format of "The Collection". I felt like there were parts that where unnecessary. Such as explaining basic gameplay functions or saying what the collectibles are. Unless I have something to say about the gameplay functions, why should I bring it up? If I was going for a a by-the-books review show, then I would say things like that. However I am not, I'm making a more casual show about things that I have stuff to say. Need to sound less of a reviewer, and more of a person.
#4 - Have consistent voice over!
Now I don't mean consistent like always have my voice talking every second. I mean have the audio quality the same throughout the video. You'll notice this as the 2 minute mark that the audio quality takes a MASSIVE dive. I have no clue what the hell happened there as I was using the same exact mic from the first 2 minutes so I don't know why this sound sucks. Perhaps it was the distance I was from the microphone was different from before, or perhaps there was too much background noise and the noise removal on Audacity made my voice sound horrendous. Will definitely need to get this sorted out for the next video.

Well that's everything, a whole lot right? The making of this video sure helped me to make better videos in the future. Thank you for reading this and look out for my next video!
